Attention all driving associates:
Cargo theft is on the rise. In the trucking industry, there has been a 46% increase in cargo theft compared to the first quarter of 2023. This year alone Knight had 5 break-ins with loss.
More specifically, spikes in unattended loads have been noted; particularly in regions shown on the map below:
Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, Florida, and Southern California.
Steps to take to protect the loads:
- Always use locks on loaded trailers! All loaded trailers are required to have a padlock, regardless of the type of freight or the distance traveled.
- When parking for a break, try your best to park where you can back up against a fixed object to prevent unauthorized entry (a wall, light post, or other barrier work well).
- Roll up your windows and do not leave any keys in or on the truck!
- Do not disconnect loaded trailers from the tractor at any location except at a company-secured/approved terminal or drop yard OR at the consignee after the BOL has been signed for and an empty call is done.
