Driver Spotlight: Dale A.

Welcome to our new series, Driver Spotlight. In this series, we'll be highlighting a driver that stands out and goes above and beyond from each of our terminals throughout the year. We're starting the series with Dale, one of our driving associates and trainers from Dallas.

Dale’s story begins with his service in the Navy, where he learned discipline, hard work, and the value of serving others. He left the military 23 years ago and transitioned into trucking, seeking a career that offered both independence and a continued sense of purpose. In his words, “I love this country. As a truck driver, I’m still serving this country.”

Dale’s first experience with Knight Transportation was over 14 years ago. At the time, he left to pursue a higher-paying opportunity with another company in Minnesota, where he spent the next decade. However, after years of navigating the challenges of smaller companies, he found himself drawn back to Knight.

Returning to Knight felt like coming home. Dale appreciated the company’s unique terminal structure, which allows each location to operate with a ‘small company feel’ while benefiting from the resources and reliability of a national organization. “It feels like a smaller company because of the way the terminals are done,” he shared. At his Dallas terminal, Dale knows everyone by name, reinforcing a personal connection that he values deeply.

Dale is a trainer now and takes pride in shaping the next generation of professional drivers. He emphasizes safety, punctuality, and communication, reminding his students, “Protect your license because that is your life. If you’re protecting your license, you’re protecting the company.” For Dale, trucking is not just a job, but a profession and a way to give back.

His role as a trainer is just one aspect of his pride in his work. Dale sees every load delivered on time as a testament to his dedication and a reflection of Knight’s reliability. “Anybody can drive this truck on the highway... but what I want them to get out of it is how to be a professional driver,” he explained.

What keeps Dale motivated after more than two decades on the road? A sense of adventure and purpose! He thrives on the opportunity to see new places, overcome challenges, and represent his company and profession with integrity. “It’s dedication and sacrifice. If you’re not willing to do that, this isn’t the business for you,” he says.

For Dale, Knight Transportation is more than an employer, it’s a partner in his journey. With the support of a strong team and a shared commitment to excellence, he feels empowered to continue delivering, training, and inspiring the next generation of drivers.
